Vacuum energy density and gravitational entropy

چکیده
The failure to calculate the vacuum energy is a central problem in theoretical physics. Presumably arises from insistent use of effective field theory reasoning context that well beyond its intended scope. If one follows this path, led inevitably statistical or anthropic for observations. It appears more palatable resolution requires some form UV/IR feedback. In paper we take point view such feedback can be thought as arising by defining notion quantum space-time. We reformulate regularized computation way it interpreted terms sum over elementary phase space volumes, identify with ground state degeneracy. This observation yields precise feedback, while leaving scale unfixed. Here argue holography provide key piece information: show equating microscopic degeneracy macroscopic gravitational entropy prediction easily consistent Essentially, smallness tied large size Universe. discuss how within scenario notions go so wrong.

Gravitational vacuum polarization IV: Energy conditions in the Unruh vacuum
Building on a series of earlier papers [gr-qc/9604007,9604008,9604009], I investigate the various point-wise and averaged energy conditions in the Unruh vacuum. I consider the quantum stress-energy tensor corresponding to a conformally coupled massless scalar field, work in the test-field limit, restrict attention to the Schwarzschild geometry, and invoke a mixture of analytical and numerical t...
متن کاملVacuum Energy Density near Fluctuating Boundaries
The imposition of boundary conditions upon a quantized field can lead to singular energy densities on the boundary. We treat the boundaries as quantum mechanical objects with a nonzero position uncertainty, and show that the singular energy density is removed. This treatment also resolves a long standing paradox concerning the total energy of the minimally coupled and conformally coupled scalar...
متن کاملAn Alternative Approach to Vacuum Energy, Dark Matter & Gravitational Lensing
Various TeVeS-like and f(R)-like theories of gravity have added an interesting twist to the search for dark matter and vacuum energy, modifying the landscape of astrophysics day by day. A common thread of various theories is a non-uniform vector field fluid in the vacuum (see an up-to-date summary of relations between various theories by Halle, Zhao & Li, arXiv0711.0958 1). These ”alternative” ...
متن کاملAn Uneven Vacuum Energy Fluid as Dark Matter & Gravitational Lens
Various TeVeS-inspired and f(R)-inspired theories of gravity have added an interesting twist to the search for dark matter and vacuum energy, modifying the landscape of astrophysics day by day. A common thread of various theories, according of an up-todate summary by HZL 1, is a non-uniform vector field, describing an uneven vacuum energy fluid. The so-called ”alternative” gravity theories are ...
متن کاملVacuum instability and gravitational collapse
We argue that (0, 1) heterotic string models with 4 non-heterotic spacetime dimensions may provide an instability of the vacuum to gravitational polarization in globally strong gravitational fields. This instability would be triggered during gravitational collapse by a nonlocal quantum switching process, and lead to the formation of regions of a high temperature broken symmetry phase which woul...
